We all know a wedding can get quite expensive. Luckily these saving tips will save you loads of money and you can still have the wedding you’ve always dreamt of.
You might need to do some minor changes to your original plans, but your wedding can still be amazing and beautiful.
So let’s make some smart decisions and save the unnecessary spendings.
Try to plan your wedding ceremony and reception in the same location. You will save money on decoration as well as on transportation.
Keep this in mind already when deciding on your venue. Some places don’t offer the possibility of organizing a wedding reception.
2. Guest List
Cut down your guest list. Every additional guest brings additional costs. You need to pay for additional seating, food, and drinks.
From a certain amount of guests you also need to rent venue with higher capacities as well as hire more waitresses and so on.
What if you’ve always dreamt of a big wedding with plenty of people? That’s just fine, but you have to accept, that it will be more expensive.
Replace your 3-course sit down affair with a buffet style meal. Not only will you save money, but your guests will also have more flexibility and variety. They can decide what they want to eat, furthermore then can take as much as they like.
The money you will save can be put towards other things. Maybe your honeymoon or something else, that brings you real joy and pleasure. It is your wedding after all.
A wedding cake is another item that can get ridiculously expensive. Save yourself not just some money, but also the hassle of serving the cake to all your guests.
The solution is easy, get a cupcake cake. They can be so beautiful and they are incredibly practical at the same time. As well as a buffet style meal it offers flexibility and variety to your guests.
You can offer many flavors and every guest can easily take the amount he or she wants.
What if you don’t want to eat cupcakes on your wedding day? There is even a solution to that.
It’s a combination of classic wedding cake and a cupcake cake. On the top of the cupcake pyramid, the baker prepares a small cake that is meant just for the bride and groom.
It’s a perfect solution that has all the benefits.
Make your wedding cake even more special with a beautiful personalized wedding cake topper. Cutomize the name, date and even the colour to make it a great fit to your cake. After the wedding, you can keep it above the beat or in the living room as a lifetime memory.
You don’t need a live music for the whole evening. If you are willing to put some time into it, you can save loads. Just ask the guests to email you their song suggestions and prepare your own music list for the event.
You can also look for premade song list for wedding receptions on the internet. You can find some inspiration in my article 100 Best Songs: Ultimate List for Delightful Reception.
Save money on the professional photographer. Nowadays there are so many hobby photographers I am sure you will find one among your friends too. Or ask all of your guests to take pictures for you. The quality of the pictures even from the smartphones today is really good.
You can then level up the quality of the pictures in a free online photo editor. A little bit of brightness, contrast, sharpening and you are good to go.
7. Hair and makeup
Save money on your hairstyle and makeup. Now, you don’t want to save money on this at every cost. You still want to look awesome on your big day.
But if you have a talented friend who can help you with this, you don’t necessarily need to pay a professional. Ask your friend to make you this favor as his or her wedding present for you.
Since no hair and makeup will good on demaged hair and dry skin, make sure to give yourself the treatment you need before your big day.
If you’re not sure about that to do exactly, read this Ultimated Wedding Beuaty Timeline.
You can save some more money on your transportation if you hire just one rental car. Another smart solution is to find a friend with a nice car that would volunteer to give you a ride. You can decorate the car with banner, ribbons and flowers matching your accent colors.
Or maybe you have a friend with horses? 🙂
9. Bridal Dress
Think about hiring your wedding gown. You can save literally a fortune on this one.
I know, I know… wedding dresses are one of the if not the most important part of our wedding day (no offense, grooms 🙂 ).
We want to look like princesses, most beautiful creatures ever, and this is kind of connected to having your own dresses, right?
BUT if you really think about it, most likely you will wear this dress ONLY ONCE in your life and spend few thousands on it (Euros and Dollars speaking).
So if you decide that wedding dress is not the highest priority for you, I’d suggest you save the money for other purposes and look for dresses to hire.
The alternative would be buying a used wedding dress. It will be yours and you can still have beautiful designer piece for a much lower price. And since you will have them cleaned, they are basically like brand new.
Last option is to buy a new dress for yourself and then, if you will be able to say your dress goodbye, sell them again. There’s a risk, that you won’t be able to sell them easily after the wedding. You can try to talk to a company that sells second-hand wedding dresses and agree on buying your dress before you purchase them.
10. Dresses for others
Same goes for the garments of your bridesmaids and the groom. First of all the bridesmaids. Of course you want your bridesmaids to look gorgeous- not as gorgeous as you, that’s for sure, but still gorgeous. 🙂
Remember though, you are the one paying for their dresses. Try to find a cheaper option, since you will probably need to pay for those dresses more than once, depending on how many bridesmaids you have.
There are also two ways to get around this. First, you can ask your bridesmaids to wear dresses they already own. You might be able to find a color and hue the all own.
The issue is that they all won’t have the same dresses. But if your wedding style is not as conservative, it might work just fine.
The other option is to ask the bridesmaids to pay for their dresses if they will keep them at the end. This only means you have to find dresses all your bridesmaids like and are willing to buy.
If they will agree with that idea, you can at least buy them some matching accessories to their dresses as a gift. I really like these elegant “tie the knot” bracelets with a personalized letter.
In case you’re still not sure, how you should ask your bridesmaids, you can find some cute and funny recommendations here.
Regarding the groom, most men don’t care as much about what they were. As long as they look good, they might be willing to agree with rental tux quite easily.
If your fiancé is one of those who actually care, you can discuss it with him and apply any of the solutions I’ve already explained in point nine above.
With some planning ahead you can also save on stag and hen parties (also known as bachelor and bachelorette parties). If you’re planning a trip, the sooner you book, the cheaper it will be.
You can also save a bunch of money just by simply planning the party in your town. Or instead of a party, opt for some nice activity like a spa day for ladies (always my favorite), or paintball and go-kart for the guys.
Not just booking a long time ahead, but also booking last minute can save few hundred bucks. If you are adventurous enough, book your honeymoon shortly before your wedding.
But if you’d rather plan your honeymoon ahead and book your dream destination, do it.
You don’t want to feel stressed about not knowing if you will be able to find something you love at the last minute.
You can always ask your wedding guests to donate you some money for the honeymoon as their wedding gift.
